Riverhead Local: Riverhead Joins GOP-Led Federal Suit Over New York’s Even-Year Election Law
October 31, 2025 — RiverheadLOCAL
The New York State Republican Committee, three counties, and eight Long Island towns — including Riverhead — filed a federal lawsuit late Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Central Islip challenging New York’s Even-Year Election Law. Also named as plaintiffs are the Nassau and Suffolk GOP committees and 16 Republican officials and candidates; the complaint, filed by Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors for the state committee, alleges First Amendment and Voting Rights Act violations and seeks an injunction, following recent state-court decisions upholding the law.
“Cloaked in the rhetoric of increased ‘voter turnout,’ the law is a calculated attempt to centralize top-of-the-ticket political power at the expense of local democracy.” — Complaint, E.D.N.Y., via RiverheadLOCAL
